WHAT IS
       IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME ?

In today's society, Americans complain more about digestion than ever before. The most common complaints are abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation and gas. Poor digestion starts from bad eating habits, stress and lack of exercise. Over the years, these bad habits can lead to irritable bowel syndrome, IBS, the most common intestinal disorder seen by doctors today.    Approximately 22 million people in the United States or 10% to 20% of the world population, 2/3's of whom are women suffer from IBS.

I.B.S. is not life-threatening but can affect all aspects of your lifestyle which includes sleep, employment, leisure time, travel, diet, sexual functioning and even depression and anxiety. Usually I.B.S. starts in early adulthood and in most cases occurs before the age of forty. The symptoms of I.B.S. may fluctuate over time but usually exist throughout the person's life.

To see if you are an irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) candidate you can take and complete the IBS Self-Evaluation Questionnaire.
